2022 is right around the corner…. we know; it’s surreal! The New Year is the perfect time to start fresh and create new goals. One of the most popular goals that people have is to take better care of themselves. Life has a way of becoming chaotic and a lot of us put self-care on the back burner. Let’s all leave that in 2021 and start 2022 with the habit of putting ourselves first! Here are 3 easy skincare resolutions for you to strive for in the new year!
1. Schedule a skin cancer screening with your dermatologist. A lot of us get in the habit of putting off scheduling appointments (guilty!) but we are getting on top of it in 2022! It is highly recommended to get a skin cancer screening at least once a year. According to Manhattan Dermatology, Skin Cancer is the most common form on cancer in the United States. More than 2 million Americans are diagnosed every year. With that being said, the earlier you detect skin cancer the more likely it is to be cured. 2. Get in the habit of putting on sunscreen everyday (c’mon you knew this was coming 😉)! A very common misconception is that you only need sunscreen during the Summer, when you really should be applying sunscreen 365 days a year. It is so important that your sunscreen not only has an SPF over 30 but is also Broad Spectrum. The SPF value measures a sunscreen’s ability to filter UVB rays only, whereas the term Broad Spectrum means that it protects you from both UVB and UVA rays. And it's so important that your skin gets protection from both! UVB rays are primarily responsible for sunburn and can vary in intensity depending on the time of year. On the other hand, UVA rays are consistently strong throughout the year! UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are primarily responsible for signs of aging, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. Remember: UVA (A for aging) and UVB (B for burning)! Take care of your skin in 2022 by adding SPF as the last step of your everyday skincare routine! 3. Drink more water! Yes, I am sure you hear it all the time so we will keep it brief! Staying hydrated has so many benefits when it comes to your skin – like increasing skin elasticity, reducing and preventing wrinkles, and preventing acne! When it comes to drinking enough water, it’s easier said than done! It can be difficult to remember to drink enough water when life gets busy, so here are some tips. Get a reusable water bottle to carry around with you through out the day. Make it a goal to refill your water bottle a certain number of times a day to ensure you are getting enough water! Most of us always have our phones nearby so set an alarm to remind you every couple of hours to drink water until it becomes a habit. Your skin will thank you and you’ll be surprised by how much a difference drinking enough water can make.
