What is CōTZ?
CōTZ stands for Contains Only Titanium and Zinc. All of our products use only the mineral sunscreen active ingredients Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide in sheer, elegant formulas.
Why should I use a mineral sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreens work differently from chemical sunscreens, and we believe those differences make mineral sunscreens healthier:
- Mineral sunscreens reflect and refract UV light away from the skin. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing ultraviolet light on/into your skin and creating a reaction that produces heat.
- Mineral sunscreens don’t penetrate the skin. Chemical sunscreens can penetrate the skin and reach other tissues.
- Mineral sunscreens rarely cause skin allergies. Chemical sunscreens are more likely to cause allergic reactions.
What makes your mineral sunscreens different from other mineral sunscreens?
CōTZ mineral sunscreens are known for their uncommonly light, silky feel and virtually invisible appearance on skin. That’s because we use only the highest quality active and inactive ingredients, delivering excellent protection in formulas that are a pleasure to wear.
Are your products Reef Friendly?
All CōTZ products meet Reef Friendly guidelines, meaning they are 100% free of the chemical sunscreen actives Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, as well as all other chemical sunscreen actives. There is currently no specific test for Reef Friendly certification.
Are any CōTZ products part of the USDA BioPreferred® program?
CōTZ PURE Botanicals SPF 45 is USDA Certified Biobased, containing 93% USDA certified biobased content.
Are your sunscreens non-nano?
CōTZ sunscreens contain a proprietary blend of multiple-sized particles that form a protective physical barrier to reflect and refract UV radiation. In their raw state, some of these particles may be nano-sized, but before formulation the Titanium and Zinc Oxide particles are coated with inert ingredients, so they are “non-nano” as used in the products.
Do your products contain parabens?
All CōTZ products are free of parabens and other preservatives.
Are CōTZ products tested on animals?
We do not test CōTZ products on animals, and do not include any ingredients that are tested on animals.
Are CōTZ products gluten free?
Yes, all CōTZ products are gluten free.
What gives CōTZ tinted products their color? Do they contain dyes?
CōTZ products do not contain dyes or fragrances. The tint in our tinted products comes from Iron Oxide, a natural mineral ingredient.
Will the non-tinted products make my skin white?
The beauty of CōTZ mineral sunscreens is that they are virtually invisible. Our non-tinted products…CōTZ Sensitive, CōTZ Face Prime & Protect Non-Tinted, and CōTZ Silky Foam Non-Tinted… leave a soft finish, but no pale white cast.
Why doesn’t CōTZ make a sunscreen spray?
We at CōTZ do not believe that sunscreen ingredients (mineral or chemical) should be formulated in sprays where they could easily be inhaled. Mineral sunscreens are highly effective and are very safe when applied to the skin. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide do not penetrate the skin. CōTZ Silky Foam SPF 30 (tinted or non-tinted) is a foaming mousse that is exceptionally light and easy to spread.
Are your products water resistant?
Most CōTZ products are water resistant. The only exception is CōTZ Flawless Complexion SPF 50. The length of time for water resistance (40 minutes or 80 minutes) is found at the bottom of the front label.
Are CōTZ products safe to use with tattoos?
High quality sun protection is important to protect your tattoo from fading UV light. CōTZ mineral sunscreens are perfect for tattoos because they reflect the UV light away and don’t absorb it into the ink. Always wait until your tattoo has healed before applying sunscreen or exposing it to the sun.
Where are your products made?
All CōTZ products are made in the U.S.
Where can I find the expiration date?
The expiration date is stamped into the crimp of CōTZ tubes. On Silky Foam bottles, it is printed on the bottom.
